This one’s quick, but it looks like Scott Brown has his head on straight:
Scott Brown on Jumpgate Evolution
I especially appreciate his comments on soloing, loose grouping, mission credit, combat roles and sector building/control.
I’m looking forward to this title even more. Now, if they would ditch the subscription model…
Have you seen Taikodom yet? It’s a Brazilian F2P space game that reminds me very much of Jumpgate with its twitchy combat flying. The entire game is also on a single “server” like EVE.
It’s very much in development though, so there are bugs, etc. and the English translation is incomplete in some areas, such as the skills list.
Brazilian, eh? That’s as good an excuse as any to brush up on my Portuguese. Thanks for the tip!
*makes note to check it out when he gets home*
Interesting! I really like the idea of not having separate PvE and PvP servers. (I don’t think that has been a good trend.)
I can help out with the Portuguese if needed, let me know
Subscription model???
/sigh
I was really looking forward to this title, but wasn’t aware the business model had been chosen. That suxors. When will they learn??
Oh well… I’ll probably give it a try, but I tend to unsub from games the minute I lose interest. Their loss I guess…
Indeed, CS. That does mean I probably won’t be playing the game (unless they rethink the business model), but I’m still excited that they are trying some new things and making the core game design more interesting. Sort of bittersweet, I suppose, but I’m being an optimist.
Hrm, Scott seems like a very levelheaded guy. I like their approach, based on the information there.
