Torchlight is on sale via Steam this weekend.
Half price for an already nicely priced game that’s good dungeon crawling fun?
That’s worth dealing with Steam for.

Let me add some more offers:
Mount & Blade – I would describe this game as a Knight’s sandbox.

Not really a bargain, but awesome to boot: King’s Bounty and its addon Armored Princess, bundled as Gold Edition:

Longasc, do you like the Impulse delivery/admin system? That’s a great deal for M&B. (Oh, and I do count Gold editions to be close to bargains.)
Batman Arkham Asylum is half off on Direct2Drive today – not really RPG-related…. but still an incredible steal.
*chuckle*
Thanks, Andrew! Good games are good games, RPG or otherwise. Batman Arkham Asylum is one of the best, from what I hear.
I guess that as long as we’re looking at sales, Good Old Games has some great stuff, too. The first two Tex Murphy games are free until Christmas, and the Might and Magic games are on sale presently.
I love sales.
Impulse is often slower and the web interface for buying/selling is not as good. BUT you can start the games without “Impulse” running in the background. It requires an “activation”, and patches to some Impulse only games require you to log in – a smart copy protection. The quite successful game “Sins of a Solar Empire” was distributed over Impulse, and sold for only 10-20 bucks if I recall correctly. I only remember it was really cheap. The result was great sales for a great game, and little piracy!
Stardock’s CEO is working on something named GOO – while the name sounds already a bit silly, it is meant as a system to allow customers to upgrade and activate games from any online seller. So basically you could buy on Steam and if Steam goes bankrupt or down you could verify the game on Impulse or other platforms. I guess the major problem with this idea is that they will have to convince Steam and all the many other digital distributors like Direct2Drive etc. etc. to support the technology.
Goold Old Games is awesome to boot. They have the least issues and troubles with copy protections… because they simply don’t have them/need them. Dunno if this would work for “Good New Games”.
It is a pity that Steam dominates the market. It has the most intrusive online activation/verification system. They could and should change that, then they would dominate even more. But it is probably already too much connected with the Steam community features. Neither Direct2Drive nor Impulse require me to have their launcher running for instance
That’s crazy cause Torchlight was already a bargain at full price! Now it’s practically free
Machinarium – which you discussed recently – is going on sale at 1pm EST tomorrow over at Direct2Drive:

If it’s $5 or less I’ll buy it….. you seemed more enthusiastic for it than me, so perhaps you might take advantage of this one?
Yeah, I think I was more impressed with it than you. To be sure, I don’t think it’s a perfect game, but it’s good enough to pick up on a good sale. Thanks for the tip!
I bought Torchlight because it was at that price. At 15-20$, it… didn’t seem so interesting. At 8, it was a steal, litterally.
.
I’m having fun with it. It just dosn’t feel revolutionary.
I had more fun with Titanquest, personnally
Will check M&B.
Longasc, thanks for the Impulse diagnosis. I’m seriously considering M&B… I’m downloading the demo now to see if I like the playstyle and if it likes my computer.
Modran, I loved Titan Quest. My Hunter/Storm guy was a blast to play. Torchlight is fun, too, just a different sort of fun.
Don’t give up if you have trouble to hit anything at all and if you feel clumsy, the controls even clumsier and all that. You will soon get the hang of it.
Yeah, I was tinkering with it last night, Longasc. I like it, but indeed, the controls are a bit clumsy. Most perplexing is the reversal in the horizontal swings. I “swing” my mouse left but get a rightward sword slash, and vice versa. That still messes with my head.
Oh, so that’s howyou get a right or left swing o_o !
I can’t hit a barn while horseback riding, personnally…
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2520/ not Torchlight, but King’s Bounty and Armored Princess sell as bundle for 11,25 EUR today!
I saw that, put the original (4.99 alone) in my shopping cart, and let it sit overnight…
… then I decided I’d go ahead and get it. I have way too many games in my queue, but that one’s been on my list for a while now (I think that’s your doing, by the way, Longasc).
I passed on the Armored Princess because of the backlog… and a truck that was diagnosed for $200 of repairs this morning.
Bleh.
