I know, I know, it’s actually TRON Legacy. Still, it can’t be TRON 2.0, since that name was taken by the fantastic FPS game from a few years back. (It’s still my favorite shooter, actually.) And yes, “legacy” is a loaded word, appropriate for the movie, I’m sure. And maybe this is really more like version 20.0… or something… but this is the third major TRON story. Mmmmmmm…
It’s like a love letter to the geeks who embraced the first TRON, and who later became the generation obsessed with making it real in one way or another. The throwback “neon white rocker” should have been left on the cutting floor, though. *shudder* Some things are best left in the 80s.
I’ll take silver blue neon tech warriors over nearly any other movie, though. And the vehicles? Forget Batman’s Tumbler, I want one of those TRON racers. December will be a good month.
Y’know… I’ve never seen the original Tron
You can come to my place and watch it on DVD. I mean, really, what’s a flight across an ocean when compared to seeing TRON?
… or something …
I’d not actually call the original an incredible movie, but it *was* important to film, game and computer graphics history. That’s reason enough to watch it at least once, if you’re interested in those industries.
I liked Tron too. It’s not as meaningful for me though. My movie of that time was The Last Starfighter. I don’t think any movie has ever really identified what it was really like for a lot of us arcade geeks in the 80s, and what we wished would happen.
The old Disney of the eighties that took chances with Tron died a long time ago. I hope they give it to the right people and not try to use the license for a quick buck.
Ah, The Last Starfighter. Indeed, that was a great show for gamers. War Games was another good one, if a bit tangential.
I have similar concerns with the potential misuse of the license. The white rocker character really bothers me for some reason. I believe it will *look* fantastic, but that’s not enough for me. Time will tell if they pull of something good.
Speaking of using licenses, I really need to write up my Goodwill Banking article…
Hey, Tesh, long time no read !
Oooooh, yeeeaaaaahhhh !!!
I reaaaaallly loved the first Tron, especially the Wallbikes. And here they go and make them look even cooler !
And, wow, they even kept the color schemes, which were really a part of the Tron world. Those neons everywhere? Love them already ! And can’t wait to see some good disk throwing.
It had been a while since seeing a trailer left me wanting so much more. Now I’m afraid I’ll be disappointed :’).
