Since they don't use a 3D engine, it also has aged well visually. They *do* use 3D models in their production pipeline, but they render them out to 2D assets and polish them up from there, getting the best of both worlds for things that don't need to be moving in 3D space. It's a clean, appealing look built on a solid visual design that really does age well and fits the puzzle presentation perfectly.

There are a lot of little considerations like that coming together in the Puzzle Pirates design that make it work well. They do their own thing, and that pays off.

I had no idea Puzzle Pirates had been around that long. Ten years puts it up there with old school MMOs like DAoC and Anarchy Online. Everquest is only 12-13 years old, Ultima Online maybe 14. Despite it's age, Puzzle Pirates remains one of the most innovative MMOs around. It's also been pretty solid financially the entire time (at least that is my understanding), despite the fact that almost no-one talks about it in the gaming press or blogosphere.
