Ugh, ‘harmonizing’. I’m actually all for the idea, but the Chinese government, well they’re certainly not harmonizing society. More like auto-tune. No, that’s still not accurate. They’re trying to tune the piano of youth to the deaf meowings of senile cats.
I firmly believe you can’t impose societal harmony from on high. You can fake unity for a while, but harmony requires people acting well together (even with different styles and tastes) because they choose to do so, not because they have to. Humans are funny that way.
Very well written article there. China will catch up in the civil rights area, its just going to take time. Its a war of attrition now. The youth vs the elders, each new generation comes along is more liberal than the last. As I said, they will get there eventually.
Cassandra, thanks for stopping by. As MMORefugee notes, it really is a great article, and one that I’m happy to share. For all the potential we have in MMOs to share with other people across national boundaries, sometimes we don’t really know all that much about other people’s lives. It’s kind of sad, really. (And the Chinese troubles illustrated are *very* sad.)
Would you believe Jimmy thought very little of that article? I’m still bashing him over the upside of the head over it. =]
Definitely true. While we’ve been mainly working on relatively mainstream things lately, we’re hoping to shed more light on the environment here in Asia. (Expect a post about software piracy one of these days!)
And yes, it’s almost staggering to know how something we take for granted can be something so bitterly fought over elsewhere.
By the way, we’re aiming to boingboing that article! If you see the link on boing boing one of these days, help us out with a vote! 😀

Hey there!
My name is — well, no wait. This isn’t a PR-related e-mail. Just dropping by to say thank you for linking us. We definitely appreciate the exposure!
>_< ARIGATO.
