My Steampunk/Gearpunk playing card deck proceeds apace. I have only the Jokers to finish, and then a pass through everything to make sure it all works together visually.
A question, though, if anyone cares to opine:
Is this something you’d like to see on Kickstarter as a project done via Bicycle, to get some top notch cards at a decent price, since we’d be leveraging the “economy of scale” with a group order, or just offer them via TheGameCrafter.com, where it’s purely “print on demand”, no minimum order, but for cards of a slightly lesser caliber (TGC still does good work, it’s just not Bicycle Cards) at a slightly higher price.
I didn’t start this with Kickstarter in mind, but I’ve been poking around in the meantime, and it might be a viable option. Any thoughts? I’ll make them available for sale either way, and maybe both ways in the end, but if I’m going to do a Kickstarter, I’d lead with it. It would just be a way to try to get a better deal and a bit more exposure.
In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at the King of Diamonds (Jules Verne) and the Jack of Spades (Henri Giffard). Thanks for stopping by!
Surely if you launched a Kickstarter for them, if it worked, it would work, and if it didn’t work, no money changes hands, no harm done, and you print on demand via TGC anyway?
Anyway if you do launch a Kickstarter, I’ll put in, a deck of those would make an awesome gift for a friend of mine that loves the steampunk
Kickstarting his minimal downside. Go for it.
I think something like this would do great on Kickstarter. I’d buy a deck or two for sure (one for me, and at least one as a gift for a friend that would love this).
Oh, yes. A Kickstarter that failed wouldn’t be a big loss, just a chunk of time and a missed opportunity. The art is (almost) done, so it’s not like I’m angling to cover production costs or the like.
…I’m really not seeing much downside to a KS campaign, other than making the print on demand version wait for a bit to see if the KS works. Thanks!
Ks seems like a fine choice. I’d love a deck or two (if you offer decent shipping outside the us) though to be fair, I’d much prefer plastic cards that I can actually play with instead of paper that I’ll have to keep in a box.
Hmm… the Bicycle cards are on card stock and coated with their special magic. I wonder now if there’s a good option for full-on plastic. I shall investigate. I suspect shipping wouldn’t be too bad world-wide, since we’re not talking about anything very heavy or spacious.
I love them!!! If you do KS I will happily pitch in and spread the word far and wide. 🙂 I’m super excited about this project!
I will say be careful with international shipping. Some of the copies of the GLC2e, which weigh less than half a pound, cost me up to $20+ to send to places in the pacific!
